How do you know a product is safe to use on a baby?
All products used on babies should be mild and free of alcohol, fragrances, and harsh preservatives. The companies whose baby products we sell make the most gentle and safe products for little ones; we recommend using soap, shampoo, and lotion created especially for babies for at least the first year. Never use adult products on a baby, even if you have them handy and know they're natural; they could be too harsh.
Why would I want to use an organic or natural diaper cream?
Diaper creams are designed to keep the skin dry; wet skin in the diaper area is the reason behind many types of diaper rash. Because this area is such a sensitive part of baby's body, we think it's best to protect it with the most pure and gentle products.
How often do I need to give my baby a bath?
Babies only need a bath every three days or so (just like grownups, when they smell, it's time for a wash). But if your baby loves bath time, feel free to bathe her every day.
What is the best way to wash a newborn?
Use only warm water. Soap, even gentle soap, is too harsh for a newborn's tender skin, and your little one won't really be getting dirty. Gently cleanse baby with a warm, moist washcloth, saving the diaper area and hair for last. Be sure the bathroom is warm, since he'll chill easily. You may even want to keep him mostly dressed, and just wash, dry, and re-dress each individual part as you go. There's no need to use shampoo, either; just wet the hair and blot the water away. After babies is 4 weeks old or so, you can start using gentle products made for infants (see above).
How soon can I use oils and lotions on my baby, and how frequently?
If baby's skin seems to be getting dry, try applying baby oil or lotion every day. After bath time is a great time to moisturize, though you may want to bathe baby less if you notice the skin is drying out. A wonderful use for baby oil is daily infant massage. A gentle rubdown will calm baby for sleep and help you bond.
When do I need to start brushing baby's teeth?
As soon as baby's teeth come in, clean them daily using a small amount of infant toothpaste on a piece of soft gauze or an infant toothbrush.
